Love the look of the Gruv Boxes, but I'm still recovering from my recent roll as Santa Claus so I had to find an alternative to those because I'm sick of my jigs getting beat up. For anyone looking for jig protection on a budget try something similar.

Took a pool noodle and cut it the length of a 3600 tackle box(you can use whatever size you want I just don't have many jigs)

I thought about using glue or double sided tape to hold the pool noodles in the tackle box but they are pretty snug and I think it would be nice to be able to take them out to clean and dry the box if needed.

If anyone has done something similar I'd love to see.

    That's all you need.

Honestly, since making it part of my regimen to fasten my tackle bag on the 2-up seat, I've not had any real wear and tear to speak of, in regular plano boxes.

I think the key is to use the appropriate sized Plano box for the amount of jigs/lures, so they aren't able to move around and collide with each other...so if youare seeing paint chips, either use smaller boxes, or buy more tackle :)

What I can see of those Gruv boxes is--- no tangled hooks. That's a big benefit. Likely worth the money right there.

I remember (I think it was Roger) using these small Plano 2-sided bins.
    I switched after seeing them.
They work great and there is little wear on the tackle from bashing around.
A friend gave me some custom painted jigs and I'd hate for them to get all dinged up.
I addition, it prevents me from bring the kitchen sink.

I use the same ones. Main thing is don't let your tackle bang around, whether it's in the back of a truck, in a sleigh behind a sled, or in the boat.

Those Gruv boxes look great, but that's a pretty niche market that pays $42 a tray to store ice fishing tackle. You guys are way too high end for me

If you actually went ice fishing it would be an easier purchase to make :p:D

I use these for lipless cranks. http://www.shoptoit.ca/plano-flipsider-bait-storage-systems/11352953/

Was telling @lewbank about them today. They hold lipless cranks tight and separate. No wear on them. No tangled trebles. Still $20 a tray tho, but better than $40.

For jigs, just cram a dozen in a small, four dollar tray. I mean, how many jigs you really gonna tie on in a day of ice fishing? I used to lug around a couple hundred jigs in my ice bag....what a waste.

Only time I really tend to lose jigs ice fishing is fishing Crappie and the dipshit Pike snip 'em off. ...gad, it's rare I'm happy to see a Pike

The pic I posted earlier in the thread is for the boat and if gruv starts making a half sized jig tray it makes the micro jig/fly box deep enough for regular jigs it will be perfect

And some rough/quick math puts around $260 worth of rattle baits in my gruv box
so might as well protect them

That will work just fine. I like the gruv jig boxes. You're right, it was quite satisfying filling it up. I do like to have enough jigs in every color I have confidence in, for everyone in the boat , so I do wish they came in bigger sizes. The crankbait box could have been designed a bit better to accommodate bigger lures. Cam mentioned guys were modifying them, I just can't bring myself to hack it up quite yet, so I'll save it for my smaller crankbaits, and hope one for larger ones comes out in the near future.
